Abstract: In some developed countries, community garden has provided a place for people to contact nature and relax, which has been popular with more and more people. In China, the development of community garden is still in the exploration stage, and learning from the foreign community garden is of great benefit to the development of community garden. The development status of community gardens in Australia were introduced in detail. Three community gardens located in the residential area, school, and park, were taken as examples to analysis the benefits of the community gardens for these vulnerable groups, such as the lonely people, the elderly, children and disabled people. These illustrate the significance of community garden to the improvement of people’s physical and mental health and the sustainable development of society. At the end of this paper, according to the successful experience of the development of the community gardens in Australia and China’s present situation, we put forward the suggestions about the construction of community gardens in China.
