Abstract: 【Objective】The development of the A3 cytoplasm in forage sorghum breeding.【Method】① Development and commercial cultivation of A3 cytoplasm male-sterile line; ② Fertility reaction of A3 cytoplasm male-sterile line; ③ Hybrid selective breeding.【Result】Results showed that take A3398 as the sterile source, SX-1 as the foundation material, after continuously eight generation of Backcross, developed new cytoplasm male-sterile line A3SX-1A in 1996, this line has anti-abortion, the long mesoclimate, drought resistant and depth sowing tolerance, the comprehensive agronomic characters were fine. At present we have developed 3 hybrids with this male sterile line, Jincao 1 has already through examination and approval, and is widely cultivated in 20 provincial areas.【Conclusion】The success use of A3 cytoplasm in the forage sorghum breeding and the production, has enriched the sorghum hybrid's hereditary basis, increased the sorghum hybrid type and the new forage type
