Abstract: The chemical composition of plant active substances, such as saponins, can promote growth and antioxidant power, improve the immunity of animal body. It can also regulate the rumen fermentation pattern. Recent studies showed that tea saponin could improve rumen fermentation and protein utilization rate, reduce the methane production and thus improve the performance of animal production by exerting effect on rumen microorganism. Therefore it could be used as a natural feed additive. This article reviewed the research progress in the effect of tea saponin on rumen microbial community of ruminant animal and rumen fermentation. And combined with research results of the research team, the author offered analysis of tea saponin to solve practical problems as rumen fermentation of natural control agents. In addition, the author put forward the new research direction and the prospect of tea saponin according to the current research status.
