Abstract:

Wheat is one of the most important stable crops in the world, feasible wheat transgenic technique has been advancing more slowly than that of other gramineous crops, including maize and rice, however, some gratifying results have been obtained in recent years. In the review, we made an analysis of various methods experimented in wheat transformation, such as pollen tube pathway, particle bombardment and agrobacterium-mediated transformation. We also made a classification analysis of the functional genes that have been transferred to wheat, e.g. DREB, LEA for salt/drought resistance, GNA, Bt for disease and insect resistance, aroA, Bar for herbicide resistance, and 1Dt10, 1Ax1 for flour quality improvement. In the end, we gave a outlook of wheat transgenic techniques and its strategy, especially for the agrobacterium-mediated floral dip transformation, in order to promote the improvement of wheat transgenic techniques and their application in wheat breeding.
