Carbohydrate has been recognized as energy resource and structure component for a long time, however their bio-information function studies becomes an important issue recently. The cell surface glycoprotein is an essential molecule for communicate with other factors outside the cell. The types of glycosyl and its numbers, positional isomers and anomeric configurations, the length of sugar chain and binding sites to glycoprotein have formed bio-signals, which respond to the stimulation of exterior. Here in this paper, we will summarize the recent progress on the function studies on cell surface glycoprotein.
