Abstract: Six hybrid rice combinations which are suitable for ratooning rice farming were used to study the effect of sink-source characters of main rice on growth and development of ratooning rice. The result showed that the correlation was remarkable between the spikeles numbers of per panicle, filled grains numbers, grain weight of ratooning rice and sink components of main season. The panicle numbers of ratooning rice and main season was negative correlated. The rate of living axillary buds decreased with filling of grains in main season. The rate of living axillary buds may reach 100% in 2 nodes from the top, and it was only 33.28%~58.21% in 4 and 5 nodes from the top. Ratooning of per culm and panicle numbers of main season was significantly negatively correlated. The ratooning of per culm and leaves dry matter, leaves area, chlorophyl content, culm and sheath dry matter of ripeness stage was positively correlated. Export rate of culm and sheath matter of milk stage had significantly negative correlation. The harmonized relation of sink–sources and fine population quality before mid growth stage of main season was basic of the high yield of main season and ratooning bud growth. The lower export rate of culm and sheath matter, slow senescence rate of leaves, adequate area of high effect leaves, high physiology activity and photosynthetic product export in time of late stage was the key of high yield of main season and ratooning bud growth..
