Abstract: In order to understand the quality of cultivated land and main obstacle factors of crop high-yield, a GIS-based land quality evaluation was carried out with support of information obtained from the project of formula fertilization in Tonglu County. The results showed that the total cultivated land area in Tonglu County was 31002.3 hm2, the proportions of top, second and third grade of cultivated land were 10.0%, 89.5% and 0.5%, respectively, and the second grade was the main type of the cultivated land. There were several main obstacle factors: (1) poor site condition, hilly landscape, and weak irrigation capacity; (2) obvious soil acidification, about 40.3% of the land had soil pH lower than 5.5; (3) soil organic matter, such as total N, available P and K of most cultivated land, belonged to medium to low levels, and nutrients’ distribution was unbalanced. Aimed at the existing problems, it is necessary to strengthen formula fertilization by soil testing to improve the quality of cultivated land, and organic fertilizers should be applied increasingly, rural irrigation and water conservancy facilities should be constructed, soil nutrient balance of cultivated land should be promoted and the basic soil fertility level of cultivated land should be elevated.
