Abstract: The study aims to provide a technical basis for recycling use of waste in culture substrate of Rhododendron pulchrum, which has great significance of reducing the production cost and the recycling use of the waste. Using the fermentation products of organic litter, peat moss, pine bark, coconut chaff and inorganic substrate perlite, yellow sand and natural soil and other mediums to make nine kinds of culture substrates, we measured the growth indexes (plant height, plant spread, the number of braches, leaf area, chlorophyll) ofR. pulchrum which were planted in different kinds of culture substrates, and analyzed the variance. The results showed that: the plants grew in culture substrate A3 and A2 had better plant height, the best plant spread and number of branches, the outline of plant was good, the content of chlorophyll was high, the leaf area was big, the tendency of growth was robust, the whole growth index was superior. Based on the comprehensive analysis of each index, the culture substrate made of six parts of peat and three parts of coconut chaff and three parts of litter and one part of perlite and the culture substrate made of two parts of peat and two parts of litter and one part of yellow sand were suitable for the growth ofR. pulchrum.
