Abstract: In order to study the effect of vegetable oil additive on the defoliation, boll opening effect and yield of cotton, alkyl ethyl sulfonate is taken as the control (1500 g/hm2), 4 kinds of vegetable oil application dosages are set up, including 0, 600, 900 and 1200 g/hm2. Under the relative low temperature, a field application test is conducted in two sites, Manas County and Hutubi County, Xinjiang. The differences of defoliation, boll open rate and yield are analyzed. The results showed that the final defoliation rate and boll open rate with 900 g/hm2 vegetable oil additives treatment was significantly higher than that of the control and 0 g/hm2 vegetable oil treatment, reached over 95% and 96% , respectively (P <0.05). In conclusion, vegetable oil additives have significant synergistic effect on defoliation and ripening of cotton under low temperature, and the dosage of 900 g/hm2 is the best.
