Abstract:

Farmers are the ‘practitioners’ and ‘verifiers’ of the adjustment of land contract rights, so it is important to understand their recognition degree of the adjustment methods for the formulation and sustainable development of relevant policies. Based on the survey data of 510 households in Jiangxi Province, we applied Ordered Logistic model from the perspective of livelihood capital to analyze the recognition of land contracting rights adjustment methods and the influencing factors. The results showed that: (1) the total value of livelihood capital and all livelihood capital indices of the sample farmers were low, and there was significant variability among the five major livelihood capital indices, with the highest as the livelihood capital index and the lowest as the natural capital index; (2) as to human capital, the education level, availability of non-farm skills and family health status all had significant influence; as to natural capital, the area of contracted land had significantly positive influence; as to physical capital, the number of trucks had significantly negative influence; as to financial capital, annual household income and difficulty in obtaining loans had significant influence; as to social capital, the availability of village leaders and regular participation in village meetings had significant influence. Based on the results, policy recommendations were proposed such as giving full play to the leading role of the government and increasing publicity, and establishing proper adjustment methods of land contract rights according to local condition under stable contracting relationship.
