Abstract: The aim was to understand the effects of selenium on plants under cold stress more. The absorption of plants to selenium and the physiological effects of selenium on plants were concluded; cold stress could affect active oxygen metabolism, and reduce photosynthesis and respiration. Selenium could increase the contents of chlorophyll and proline, and reduce the malondialdehyde content; selenium could alleviate the cold damage by regulating the levels of active oxygen species. It pointed out that the mechanism of effects of selenium on antioxidant enzyme activities, the relationship between selenium and the resistance of plants to low temperature, the metabolism of selenium by regulating the oxidative stress in chloroplasts to alleviate chilling damage would be the focus of future research.
