Abstract:

In this paper, we study the effect of pregnancy on thermoregulaton in the common lizard Lacerta vivipara population of Xiaoxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province through the methods of wild caught and laboratory rearing in June and September 2008. The results showed that the common lizard could make their own body temperature increased at low temperature (18℃) through the heat source thermostat. Pregnancy significantly affected on thermoregulation in the common in this study, while pregnant females not like the male and non-pregnant individuals to very high temperatures (33℃ or so) but chose an appropriate temperature (31℃ or so). The results from this study show that gravid females regulate their body temperatures trade-off between its own optimum temperature and optimum temperature for embryonic development.
