Abstract:

Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are capable of forming nano-magnetite particles envelo- ped by a biological membrance in vivo, which are called magnetosome. The biosynthesis of magnetosome especially mechanisms of iron uptake and transport process with very strict controls. The crystallographic perfection of magnotosome has attracted interest in its use as magnetic nanoparticles in medical imaging, magnetic-mediated hyperthermia, drug delivery, and other fields. This paper reviews the magnetosome biomineralization mainly on the pathway of iron reaction and iron uptake transport system, describes the magnetosome in the application of the above and put forward the future directions.
