Abstract:

Shading is one of the most important factors that affect the growth and turf quality of turfgrasses. In the experiment, the author compared the growth responses and soluble protein content of centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides) growing in a greenhouse when exposed to 3 light regimes: full sunlight (CK), moderate shading (50% of full sunlight), and intense shading (30% of full sunlight) for 5 growing months. Different light regimes were designed by using plastic shade net in different light transmittance. The results indicated the content of soluble protein content in leaves was significantly deceased by shading in comparison to CK while no difference was observed between 2 shading treatments. On the other hand, the stolon increment, tiller and the leaf thickness were significantly decreased when exposed to shading. In contrast, the leaf length and average plant height were significantly increased.
