Relationship between Filling Power and Major Physical-Chemical Indicators in Flue-cured Tobacco

Abstract: Studies on correlation, step regression and path analysis between physical characters and chemical components in flue-cured tobacco from different producing areas in China were researched in order to find out the relationship between filling power and major physical-chemical indicators. The results indicated that, the filling power had correlation with chemical components and physical characters. The multiple stepwise regression equation of total sugar, equilibrium moisture content, the ammonia content, the extract of cyclohexane, leaf density and potassium with the filling power was of significant level and fitted pretty well. The equation is Y=9.007- 0.052Xtotal sugar- 0.168Xequilibrium moisture content+ 7.650Xammonia- 0.048X the extract of cyclohexane- 0.158Xleaf density- 0.373Xpotassium. These physical-chemical indicators in the order of direct effectiveness on the filling power were total sugar> potassium> leaf density> equilibrium moisture content> the extract of cyclohexane> ammonia.
