Abstract: Brontispa longissima is one of the most serious insect pests of palm plants (e.g. Cocos nucifera). There have been several studies on application potential of plant natural products in the control of B. longissima. These studies indicated that some plant natural products themselves or their derivatives exhibited significant resistance or attraction to B. longissima, so these compounds may be useful in the environmentally benign control of B. longissima. Principal findings of these previous studies were summarized and commented here, including the resistance e.g. insecticidal, antifeedant, growth and development inhibitory effects, as well as the attraction of C. nucifera leaf volatiles to B. longissima. The author pointed out that plant natural products are widely available, environmentally benign and exhibit great application prospect in the control of B. longissima. Therefore, further research is necessary, lays a solid foundation for the final application and promotes the development of green and efficient B. longissima control measures.
