Abstract: In order to study the effects of drought grades on seeds germination of Carthamus tinctorius L., the author used ‘Jihong No.1’, ‘Xinhong No.4’ and ‘Yumin wuci’ as test materials, three Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties were investigated on their germination under treatments with different PEG concentrations. The results showed that: the PEG could retard the germination of stressed seeds, and the germination rate, germination index, and germination potential were all decreased with increasing PEG concentration, when it was under water potential≤-0.4 MPa. PEG 6000 impact seed germination with varying degrees of restrain about different safflower variety. Compared with varieties, ‘Yumin wuci’ had the best drought resistance, ‘Jihong No.1’ followed behind, ‘Xinhong No.4’ was weakest.
