Functions of Alcohol Dehydrogenase Family in Abiotic Stress Responses in Plants

Zhang Jiyu, Wang Gang, Huang Shengnan, Xuan Jiping, Jia Xiaodong, Guo Zhongren

  1. (Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210014)Abstract: Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is highly conserved across species, from prokaryotes to fungi, plants, and animals. In this paper, the author summarized the distribution of ADH gene family, ADH protein structure, the role of ADH genes in resistance to waterlogging, chilling, and drought stress in plants, and ADH genes involvement in the anaerobic fermentation. Finally, the problems of study about ADH genes at the present stage were proposed, and the prospects were predicted as well.
