Abstract: In order to identify the salt tolerance of indica male sterile lines in different development stages and screen out the appropriate male sterile lines with high salt-tolerance for further hybrid rice combination, 8 indica male sterile lines were identified for salt tolerance during germination and seedling stages, FL478 and IR29 were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. The results showed that the germination of rice seeds was inhibited by salt stress, and the inhibiting effect was enhanced with the increase of salt concentration. 10 g/L NaCl could be selected as the best concentration for salt-tolerant identification, the tolerant differences among lines were obvious under this concentration in germination stage. ‘Huhan 7A’ and Y58S revealed the best salt tolerance during germination stage, which belonged to the first salt-tolerance level just like FL478. Meanwhile, ‘Quan 9311A’ also showed strong salt tolerance which belonged to level 3. The growth of rice seedling was also inhibited by salt stress, and the percentage of withered leaves under 8 g/L NaCl could be used as an index to reveal the salt-tolerance level during seedling stage. Salt tolerance of ‘Huhan 11A’ was similar to that of the positive control FL478.
