Abstract: Based on the rainfall data of 58 stations in Shanxi Province and the NCEP/NCEP monthly reanalyzed data, vapor transport characteristics of summer precipitation were studied, and the moisture sources and transport critical areas were revealed with SVD method. The results showed that the summer precipitation in Shanxi was connected with the east wind flow from tropical western Pacific to the South China Sea, the cross-equatorial flow in tropical Indian Ocean, the water vapor conveyor from the South China Sea to southern China and the vapor transport in the mid-latitude westerlies. There was a significant tele-correlation between Shanxi summer precipitation and summer moisture transport. The moisture transport sources were located in the monsoon from the tropical western Pacific to the South China Sea, and the cross-equatorial flow area from Indian Ocean to the Arabian Sea. The moisture transport critical area of Shanxi summer precipitation was located in the rectangular area from Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to eastern Sichuan Basin. These indexes of moisture transport, constructed by the whole layer vapor transport flux standardization, could demonstrate the effects of water vapor transport on summer precipitation in Shanxi. Results presented in this paper would provide certain reference basis for the analysis and prediction of Shanxi regional precipitation in flood season.
