Abstract: Field experiments with split block design under water saving irrigation were conducted to investigate the effect of different nitrogen fertilizer levels and planting densities on grain yield and rice quality of the double cropping late rice cultivar‘Fengyuanyou299’. The results showed that the chalky rice rate, chalkiness degree and protein content increased by 8.5%-20.0%, 0.8%-1.8% and 7.0%-43.4%, respectively, with the increase of nitrogen application amount, while the gel consistency and amylose content decreased by 5.8%-20.3% and 3.7%-6.6%. The milling quality and rice protein content increased first and then decreased with the increase of planting density, the chalky ratio, gel consistency and amylose content showed a downward trend, however, the chalkiness degree increased. In this research, the grain yield increased by 1.0%-34.7% when the nitrogen application rate was 135 kg/hm2 and the planting density was 300000 hill/hm2, it was the optimal treatment combination.
