LAPS System: Localization and Preliminary Evaluation in Guizhou

Abstract: In order to consult meteorological observation data from different sources in the same platform, and supply better initial fields to mesoscale numerical models, the Local Analysis and Prediction System (LAPS) was introduced and localized by Guizhou meteorological bureau. Two large-scale precipitation processes in Guizhou in June 2015 were diagnosed and analyzed. The results indicated that: the LAPS analysis field had more detailed description of mesoscale weather system after being fused with multiple local observation data. But in the output of the basic reflectivity factor, the value was too large, it was only used by forecasters referring to the position of the maximum value at present, and could not be used for the quantitative precipitation estimation (abbreviated QPE), further research and revision were also required.
