Thermal Properties of Bilayer Mulching Plastic Film and Recycle-cotton Quilt for Grapevine Overwintering

Abstract: To reduce the labor intensity of burying grapevine for overwintering in Turpan, Xinjiang, China, the values of daily soil temperature under bilayer mulching plastic film and recycle-cotton quilt as well as in burying soil in 2013/2014 winter were measured. The results revealed that the heat-insulating property of bilayer mulching plastic film was higher than that of recycle-cotton quilt and burying soil. The minimum temperature under the bilayer mulching plastic film was higher than the critical temperature of freeze injury (- 18℃), and there was a high compensation temperature of maximum temperature and average temperature. The grapevine germination under the bilayer mulching plastic film was obviously earlier than that under the recycle-cotton quilt and in burying soil, thus the growing period of grapevine was prolonged, and the grape yield and quality was increased. Moreover, the cost of bilayer mulching plastic film was cheaper than that of recycle-cotton quilt and re ycle-cotton quilt.
