Abstract: Drip irrigation technology is one of the main ways to save water in agriculture at present. As a result of the strong surface evaporation in semi-arid regions, the risks of surface soil salinity accumulation and secondary salinization have been enlarged especially in calcareous soil regions. This paper reviewed the effects of irrigation practice, field management, and soil texture factors on soil water and salt transport as well as secondary salinization. In view of the development of water-saving irrigation in semi-arid area at present, we put forward some research directions that need to be further strengthened, such as the rule of soil water-salt migration under drip irrigation, the effect of soil salt accumulation, and the ways to prevent secondary salinization in order to provide theoretical references for agricultural water conservation and sustainable land use in semi-arid regions.
