Abstract:

Aegilops tauschii is one of the main serious weeds in wheat field in China, it is tolerant to most herbicides due to its close relation to wheat, which brings great difficulties to the chemical control. This study investigated the allelopathic potentials of different wheat varieties against Aegilops tauschii by using equal compartment agar method (ECAM). The effects of different wheat varieties on the root length, shoot length, root dry weight, dry shoot weight of tested Aegilops tauschii were measured, expecting to screen out wheat varieties with stronger allelopathic effects on Aegilops tauschii, and provide feasible approaches for the integrated control of Aegilops tauschii. Results showed that different wheat varieties had significantly different allelopathic effects on root length, shoot length, root dry weight and shoot dry weight of Aegilops tauschii. The effect of the allelopathy activity on Aegilops tauschii root was greater than that on shoot. Using RI value as allelopathy index and combining with cluster analysis, 46 wheat varieties were divided into 3 categories according to their allelopathy ability, and six varieties with strong allelopathy were screened out including ‘Shainong 15’, ‘Jimai 23’, ‘Taikemai 30’, ‘FC009’, ‘Liangxing66’ and ‘Zhongxin7503’.
