Abstract: Most notodontid moths are severe defoliators of many tree species. In recent years, large areas in the country were infested by these species, which cause serious ecological and economic looses. As the high specificity and easy using of sex pheromones, it is an important way of using the sex pheromones for pest management in this family. Seven sex pheromones of notodontid species have been identified so far. The main components include (Z)-7-dodecen-l-ol ,(Z)-13-hexadecen-11-yn-yl acetate, (Z)-13-hexadecen-11-yn-yl aldehyde, (Z,Z)-11,13-hexade-cadien-1-yl acetate, (Z,Z)-11,13-hexadecadienal, and (Z,Z)-11,13-hexadecadien-1-ol.The research progress of the sex pheromones in Notodontidae are reviewed including the calling behaviors, separation of the pheromone extracts, the chemical identification , and the application of the sex pheromones, etc.
