Abstract: Fungal elicitors are a group of chemicals including fungal organisms, filtrate concentrate, extracts of mycelia and filtrate, soluble components of fungal mycelia with high temperature treatment, hydrolytic products of cell walls, peptides and proteins. They could stimulate plant cell multiplication and secondary metabolite production. Effects of fungal elicitors on plant cultures’ growth and secondary metabolite biosynthesis were briefly reviewed. The future potential application of the fungal elicitors in plant cell culture for secondary metabolite production was also prospected.
