Abstract: Based on the current research results of physiological and biochemical reactions in cotton fiber cell during fiber development and the formation mechanism of cotton fiber strength, this paper reviewed the current status on substance change, related and regulated enzymes (cellulose synthases, sucrose synthase, β-1,3-Glucan synthase, β-1,3-Glucanase, IAA oxidase and peroxidase) and influencing factors (genotype, temperature and hormone) for cellulose synthesis during secondary wall thickening which is the key period to cotton fiber strength formation. This paper may serve as the basis for improving the ways of physiological adjusting of fiber quality and cultivating new excellent breeds of high fiber strength.
