Abstract: Bionomics of Herse convolvuli (L.) were studied, including development duration, life cycle, body-color diversity of larva, the effective accumulated temperature, development zero, fecundity of the adult and so on. The results showed that H.convolvuli had four generations per year in Changsha region. H.convolvuli had five stadia altogether. The development zero of H.convolvuli for eggs, the 1st instar larva, the 2nd instar larva, the 3rd instar larva, the 4th instar larva, the 5th instar larva, and pupae were determined respectively as 10.8℃, 20.7℃, 13.6℃, 14.3℃, 13.1℃, 12.9℃, and 7.8℃, while their effective accumulated temperature were 45.1 degree-day, 11.2 degree-day, 32.7 degree-day, 32.8 degree-day, 36.6 degree-day, 111.3 degree-day, and 252.1 degree-day, respectively. The fecundity was from 43 eggs to 665 eggs per female adult with an averge of 276 eggs. The preoviposition period and oviposition period were from 2 d to 5 d and from 2 d to 6 d,respectively. The optimal temperature for the adult to copulate and lay eggs were 23~30℃. Different illumination condition led to body-color diversity of larva.
