Study of International Competitiveness of China’s Furniture Industry

Abstract: China has become the world’s furniture production and export of power. Evaluation of its international competitiveness and analysis of the factors are of great significance for upgrading it. The author comparatively analyzed the international competitiveness of furniture industry among Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, United States and China in view of competitiveness indexes including advantage minus index, market share, trade competitiveness and revealed comparative advantage which are calculated by data from Comtrade during between 1992 and 2006. We have conclusion that the international competitiveness of China’s furniture industry has much stronger status in the world. By using Michael Porter’s "Diamond model", the key factors affecting China’s furniture industry international competitiveness are analysized in-depth. The proposals of enhancing the competitiveness are put forward, such as pioneering foreign timber markets, accelerating forest demonstration and paying close attention to innovation, thus realizing the sustainable development of China’s furniture industry.
