Abstract:

A new method was established for determining the content of total nitrogen in tobacco leaves. After digested, stilled with alkali and absorbed by sulphuric acid, all the compounds which contain nitrogen in tobacco leaves change to NH4+. NH4+ can reduce ClO- in alkaline solution. This reaction couples with chemiluminescence reaction ClO--Luminol, which reduce the strength of luminosity. So that the content of the NH4+is determined. The lower limit of detection reaches to 10-3 mg/kg. The choice of the line range is from 0.01 mg/kg to 1.5 mg/kg. The recovery of the method was 87.3% and 109.9%. And the RSD is less than 5%(n=5). These conditions are completely contented with the requirement of determination of the total nitrogen in tobacco leaves.
