Abstract: The macro-and trace-elements（iron, zinc, copper , Manganese, calcium, potassium, sodium and magnesium）in radix codonopsis were determined by FAAS assisted with microwave digestion procedure. The method is simple and convenient and has good repetition. The results showed that: Abundant macro-and trace-elements were detected in radix codonopsis. The contents of the 4 macro–elements were K (8166.7 ug/g) >Na (2562 ug/g)>Ca (2455.7 ug/g)> Mg (1762.7 ug/g). The contents of the 4 trace–elements were Fe (543.7 ug/g) >Zn (66.3 ug/g) >Mn (16.2 ug/g) >Cu(8.3 ug/g). The results will provide scientific datas for discussing the relationship between the contents of these elements in radix codonopsis and the medical effects.
