Abstract: In China, most rivers are called “jiang” and“he”, and are regional characteristic. In the south of China, most rivers are called “jiang”; in the north of China, most rivers are called “he”. But the rivers in northern of China are exceptional. Most of the rivers in this area, except rivers in Liaohe River Basin, called “he”, are named as “jiang”, such as “Songhua Jiang, Heilong Jiang, Nen Jiang and Mudan Jiang and so on. This phenomenon is related to the physical geography of this area and the communication and formation of concepts.
