Research on the Cultivated Land Protection and Food Security ——a Case Study on Sichuan Province

Abstract: The protection of cultivated land is the substance base for food product and is the guarantee for food security. Based on the analysis of the quantity and quality of cultivated land and its environment, formation and the trend of change in Sichuan province, the recent situation of Sichuan is that deficiency in cultivated land resources per capita, finite in reserved resources and disproportion in regional distribution and inevitable decreasing in cultivated land. So for the sake of regional food security, the following available approaches should be adopted: 1) erecting the consciousness of cultivated land protection, strictly administering the system of basic farmland protection and guaranteeing the high quantity and quality basic farmland; 2) the agricultural science and technologies have to be further greatly developed, especially the new technologies in soil fertilizer; 3) enacting relative polices and carrying out the measurements of farmland protection and soil’s manuring; 4) strengthening agricultural protection, enhancing the agricultural contrast benefits and farmers’ enthusiasm in planting.
