Abstract: A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of the application of lime and biochar on soil acidity in tea garden. The results showed that biochar and lime application could significantly increase soil pH in the tea garden. The pH values of the treatments with 5~20g/kg biochar application were lower than that of the treatment with liming application, but the pH of the treatment with 40 g/kg biochar application was significantly higher than that of the treatment with lime application, which indicated that low amount of biochar application for acid soil amelioration was not as well as lime treatment under strong acid condition. Soil cation exchange capacities of the treatments with different biochar application increased by 0.98%~8.67% than that of the lime application treatment, base saturation increased by 0.85%~40.90%, the contents of soil exchangeable calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium increased by 1.70%~11.36%, 32.79%~80.52%, 76.47%~1744.12% and 4.93%~57.48%, respectively, which indicated that the biochar application was better to enhance soil acid buffer performance compared with lime application.
