Abstract: The paper aims to study the influences of mushroom residue, vermicompost and vermiculite matrix product on tomato seedling growth. A plug seedling substrate for tomato was developed by using mushroom residue as main raw material, added with different ratios of vermicompost and vermiculite. Then, growth indexes of tomato seedlings were measured during seedling development. The results showed that, compared with the commercial substrate, the matrix of mushroom residue could obviously increase the chlorophyll content of tomato plants. The stem diameter, root length, root surface area, root volume of tomato seedlings cultivated in the substrate with mushroom residue, vermicompost and vermiculite at the volume ratio of 8:1:1 were significantly higher than those in commercial substrate (CK). Compared with CK, tomato seedlings in mushroom residue mixed with different ratios of vermicompost and vermiculite had no significant differences in stem and leaf fresh weight, shoot dry weight, total fresh weight, total dry weight and root/ shoot ratio. In short, mushroom residue can be used as an effective substrate to develop tomato seedlings, and mushroom residue added with vermiculite (8-4):1 is more conducive to the development and growth of tomato seedlings.
