Abstract:

In order to provide theory basis for new wheat breeding, Richards equation was used to study the grain filling traits of two wheat cultivars: ‘Mianmai 37’ and ‘Chuanmai 42’ in this paper. The study obtained the main grain filling traits of the two wheat cultivars. The results showed that, in Sichuan Basin the grain filling rate influenced the grain weight more important than grain filling duration, the grain weight were effected mainly by the grain filling rates of the early and middle filling stages. The middle filling stage contributed more than 45 percent to the filling of the grain. Based on the above results, this paper proposed the following advice, that was, long grain filling duration and high average and maximum grain filling rates, along with lodging resistance, should be emphasized during the practice of new wheat breeding.
