Abstract:

In order to select suitable water- saving and drought-resistant woody plant for roof greening, Based on the Shijiazhuang climatic conditions, the leaf area, relative water content, relative permeability of the plasma membrane and soluble sugar content of 16 species of roof greening woody plants were determined, and the drought resistance of 16 species woody plants were analyzed comprehensively in April to June 2010. The results showed that Salix matsudana, Populus simonii, Ulmus pumila, Periploca sepium had best drought resistance, and which were recommended for roof greening. Ligustrum ‘Vicaryi’, Morus alba, Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’, Kerria japonica, Swida alba, Sorbaria kirilowii, Lonicera maackii, Ailanthus altissima and Buxus megistophylla had normal drought resistance, and which can be used for roof greening with fine management. Ulmus pumila ‘Jinye’, Broussonetia papyrifera, Rhus typhina had worst drought resistance, and can be used with better irrigation.
