Abstract:

In order to study the effects of Newcastle disease viruses (NDV) on kidney ultrastructure in ostrich chicks, ostrich chicks aged 45 days were divided into normal group and challenge group at random. The methods of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to study the kidney ultrastructure of ostrich chicks in challenge group. The results showed that the obvious morphologic change of renal corpuscle and renal tubule was observed in the challenge group, including swelling of endothelial cell, shrink of capsular space, damage of filtration barrier in renal corpuscle and vacuolar degeneration in renal tubule, with swelling of epithelial cell, ruptured and decreased of microvillus, nuclear pyknosis, the chromatins distributed along the nuclear envelopes or dissolve decrease, increased number of lysosomes, mitochondrial cristae rupturing and maculated mitochondrial. The results indicated that the kidney in ostrich was highly sensitive with NDV, which could caused significant change on histopathology of the kidney.
