Abstract:

In order to explore and understand the characteristics of the seed germination in Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum, and to provide a basis for genetic improvement and germplasm innovation by means of sexual hybridization and seed selection in Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum, using the typical varieties and strains of Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum as materials, the influence of pretreatment means before sowing, different harvest time, varieties and strains, store ways, sowing time on the seed germination were carried out in this paper. The major results were as follows: Seeds of Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum possess afterripening, they can germinated well only pass through the biological dormancy by cold stratification (100 d). In order to harvest the better seeds before capsule crazing, the middle decade of September to the first decade of October was the optimum harvest period in Changsha. Cold stratification of seeds with sclerotesta and cold store of seeds without sclerotesta couldn’t be beneficial for passing through the biological dormancy of seeds, cold stratification of seeds without sclerotesta was the optimum storage ways. The germination percentage sowing outdoor in autumn more than enough the ones sowing outdoor in spring, and it showed some genotypic differences.
