Advances in the molecular mechanisms of phospholipase D mediating signal transduction pathway in plant stress

Abstract:

In this review, the classification of the PLD gene family, the structural characteristics of different PLD isoforms, and the important bio-chemical properties, such as activity regulation and substrate specificity, were introduced. Thereafter, advances in the mechanism of PLDs mediating stress responses of plants were reviewed from the view of lipid degradation and stress signal transduction mediated by phosphatidic acid (PA), a product of PLD activated. Based on the analysis, some conclusions were made that the PLD isoforms possess different structure properties, thus have distinct bio-chemical characteristics, and it was which determines their distinct functions and the mechanisms in plant stress responses. Finally, the problems to be resolved in the progress of PLD study were discussed, and research focus in the future was also prospected.
