Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of water extracts from 4 different straws on germination and growth of crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis) under different light intensities. 4 different straws of rice, sweet corn, banana and sugarcane were collected from farmland and orchard after fruit were harvested. The effects of water extract from different straws on germination, radicle and germ of crabgrass were assessed by seed petri dish bioassay under different light intensities (0-totally darkness, 800 lx and 4000 lx). The result showed that firstly, totally darkness, in contrast with the 800 lx and 4000 lx light intensities, could reduce the germination of crabgrass seed a bit, but still its germination rate was up to 70% and more. Secondly, totally darkness was the most significant one that inhibited the germination of crabgrass among 3 light intensities, and the higher water extracts concentration, the lower seed germination. However, the effects of water extracts on radicle and germ were not obvious. Thirdly, the inhibiting order of the four water extracts to the germination of crabgrass was rice > sugarcane > banana > sweet corn.
