Abstract: Phomopsis is a large genus of Sphaeropsidaceae in Coelomycetes containing more than 100 species. They are parasites on plants of more than 70 families; causing plant leaf blight, shoot blight, rotten stems, ulcers, fruit rot, and other serious diseases resulting in significant economic losses. Phomopsis has a wide geographical distribution, from tropical to subtropical. At present, we got some progress on the characteristics, pathogenic symptoms, life cycle, pathogen biology characteristics, and control methods of these Phomopsis diseases on some major crops. In future, it’s quite important to strength the research on pathogenic mechanisms from histocytology and molecular biology points for further characterization this genus fungal disease and providing solid genes foundation of disease safe and high efficient control.
