A Review on the Research and Application of AquaCrop Model

Abstract

Abstract: AquaCrop is a Crop growth model developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. It is freely released in 2009 and has been widely validated all over the world. However, the application of AquaCrop in China is quite limited. The main purpose of this paper is to provide useful information for Chinese colleague to get to know about AquaCrop and promote the application of AquaCrop in China. Here, the foundation, calculation procedures, current application and limitations of AquaCrop were reviewed. According to the results of numerous related studies, we can conclude that AquaCrop can provide acceptable simulation result and support the irrigation management decision-making. Meanwhile, as a new crop growth model, its adaptability needs further validation and the application area should be further exploited.
