Abstract: The specific interaction between rice and Magnaporthe grisea is an important model system for studying the host-pathogen interaction mechanisms. Avirulence genes (Avr) are hereditary factors of pathogen which could induce disease resistance of host plant and are the most important elicitor of the interaction between host and pathogen. In order to find a new way of precaution and cure rice blast, the significance of M. grisea avirulence gene and three modes of interaction between resistance gene and avirulence gene were summarized, and recent research progresses on avirulence gene and molecular cloning and functional analysis of avirulence gene were summarized, and the application in rice blast epidemic and forecast was also been discussed. It pointed that it was more scientific and practical to classify M. grisea by the connection between resistance gene and avirulence gene and should accelerate the process of avirulence gene cloning.
