Abstract: In order to alleviate the environmental pollution of catechol, the screening and research of catechol degradable bacteria were supposed to provide alternative strains for the bioremediation polluted by catechol. The author focused on the enrichment, isolation and degradation characteristics of catechol degradable bacteria. Catechol was used as a sole source of carbon in the cultural medium, the degradable bacteria was isolated and screened from Xi’an sewage treatment plant water and Shaanxi apple orchard soil. After shaking at 28℃and 150 r/min in the inorganic salt liquid medium, in which catechol was used as a sole source of carbon, the apparent degrading rates of the bacteria for degradation of catechol was tested by the concentration of catechol in residue medium. The pH, volume and concentration were optimized to observe the influence of catechol degradation characteristics. Based on the test, it could draw a conclusion that the growth of bacteria for degradation of catechol and the degrading rates were reaching extreme when pH was 6, volume was 50 mL and concentration was 100 mg/L. This strain showed a good application prospect.
