Abstract: The research aimed to investigate adaptive dynamic variations of seedlings of an invasive plant, Eupatorium adenophorum in bottleneck stages in different habitats. In Dechang County of Sichuan Province, the author comparatively studied growth characteristics of E. adenophorum seedlings adapting to 3 different environments of non-farming forestland, farm-forest ecotone and abandoned land. The results showed that: (1) growth of seedlings had two peaks: the first phase was from mid-July to mid-September and the second phase started in March of the next spring, the period between two peaks was a slow growth phase; (2) biomass growth of seedlings in forestland was significantly lower than in the other two habitats; growth in abandoned land and in farm-forest ecotone were close before the second growth peak, and afterwards biomass growth in farm-forest ecotone was significantly higher than that in abandoned land; (3) after overwinter one-year growth, the seedling density in farm- forest ecotone was significantly higher than that in the other two habitats. These results demonstrated that farm-forest ecotone was the most suitable for seedling growth of E. adenophorum and was the most vulnerable habitat as well.
