Abstract: A container experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of germination and seedling growth characteristics of Pinus pinea L. seeds under different types of sandy soil conditions. The results indicated that: (1) the average germination rates under 3 kinds of sandy soil (sand, river sand and soft sand) were 58%, 83% and 75%, respectively; (2) the average germination rates under 3 kinds of sandy soil were 57%, 75% and 39%, respectively, and the average survival rates were 52% , 68% and 28% , respectively; (3) the average plant heights were 9.0, 10.4 and 9.3 cm, and the average root lengths were 16.0, 27.7 and 16.5 cm; (4) per seedling average fresh weights were 0.48, 0.69 and 0.58 g, and dry weights were 1.79, 2.38 and 1.99 g. The results showed that: the most suitable type of Pinus pinea L. planting soil was river sand, under which, the germination rate was 83%, survival rate was 68%, fresh weight and dry weight were 2.38 g and 0.69 g, respectively.
