Abstract: The objective of the present study is to investigate effects of sand priming on cold tolerance of japonica rice at germination and seedling stage. Effect of sand priming on anti-cold was investigated using south japonica rice (‘Nannongjing3786’) and north japonica rice (‘Kongyu131’). The seedling of cold resistance and physiological change were researched at 2℃germination stage and at 14℃ seedling stage. The results showed that, the percentage of germination, seedling establishment and seedling height in two japonica rice were significantly increased priming by sand after low temperature stress. The content of chlorophyll, proline and soluble sugar in rice seedling were significantly increased. The sand priming treatment for seed could prohibit the leakage of cell of seedling root, reduce the content of MDA and increase the POD and SOD activity after low temperature stress. Sand priming could increase cold tolerance of japonica rice at early growing stage.
