Abstract: The study aims to clarify the spatial distribution and sampling technique of overwintering larvae of Scythropus yasumatsui Kono et Morimoto and provide theoretical basis for making forecast and integrated control of the pest. Spatial distribution and sampling technique of the overwintering larvae of this weevil in soil were investigated by using 8 aggregation indexes, Taylor′s power law and Iwao’s regression analysis methods. The results showed that the overwintering larvae had an aggregated spatial pattern, the basic component of distribution was individual group and the aggregation of the overwintering larvae of this weevil was due to the environmental factors. The sequential sampling formula and the most suitable theoretical sampling number could be calculated by the Iwao’s m*-m. It was necessary to take actions when the weevil larva numbers were more than 342 heads/10 plants and the control threshold of larva was 30 heads per plant. The model can be used to survey, forecast and control of the pest.
